Position Overview

The Financial Aid Advisor III is part of the Financial Aid Student Experience team and reports directly to the Assistant Director of Financial Aid Student Experience

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Financial Aid Student Experience, the Financial Aid Advisor III is a member of the Financial Aid and Scholarships unit within the division of Enrollment Management and Marketing. Financial Aid Advisors work closely with the entire financial aid staff, as well as all key stakeholders within the Antioch community to coordinate outstanding student experience. As a financial advisor at Antioch University, the primary goal is to ensure excellence in student engagement by way of kind, informative and timely communication and processing.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Maintains expert-level knowledge of applicable policies, procedures, regulations, rules, statutes and laws
  • Provides financial aid advising (via phone, email, video and text messaging) to prospective, new, current, and former students.
  • Coordinates with the Assistant Director of Financial Aid Student Experience on all written communications to all prospective students: inquiry, applicants, and newly accepted students, revising written materials for new initiatives, recruitment plans, and changes in FA policy
  • Acts as a point of escalation for student concerns
  • Serves as Admissions liaison, attending new student review meetings providing applicant status updates on a regular basis
  • Conducts verification of new student application data in compliance with federal requirements
  • Conducts conflicting information resolution for new students by collecting, reviewing and documenting information from financial aid applicants
  • Determines financial aid eligibility for new students through the packaging process according to federal, state and institutional requirements, monitors individual student awards, and resolves data conflicts and over awards.
  • Serves as a vital Antioch community partner re: Antioch University (AU) recruitment and retention efforts. Advising regarding procedures, availability of and access to federal, state and institutional financial aid funds in order to ensure quality student services.
  • Coordinates and communicates with AU Admissions on new student financial aid status and updating Target X in a timely manner
  • Performs student outreach for application procedures: completing the appropriate FAFSA, completing entrance counseling and master promissory note, communication of C Flags and comment code resolution.
  • Contacts students about missing or incomplete paperwork for verification, conflicting information, and professional judgment.
  • Notifies and reminds students of when it’s time to reapply for the Graduate Plus loan, advising students on responsible borrowing.
  • Participates in new student orientations
  • Interfaces with Financial Aid Operations and Compliance team on resolving conflicting information, questions on verification and changes in federal, state and institutional policy on awarding funds
  • Interfaces with academic departments concerning program information
  • Other duties as assigned

Supplemental Responsibilities:

  • Supports Associate Director of Financial Aid Student Experience with research and document collection re: external and internal audits and DOE student case resolution
  • Participates in training new FA staff on standard procedures, and financial aid fundamentals
  • Participates in activities between Financial Aid, Bursars, Admissions, and Student Affairs to ensure outstanding student support
  • Troubleshoot problems as they arise and recommend and carry out appropriate resolutions
  • Maintain student confidentiality in accordance with FERPA regulations
  • Other duties as assigned by the Associate Director of Financial Aid Student Experience

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate’s required, or the equivalent combination of education and experience, Bachelor’s preferred
  • 2 to 3 years relevant work experience required
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Products
  • Ability to analyze, interpret and present data
  • Possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Possess excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Possess strong customer service and creative thinking skills
  • Ability to multitask to meet multiple, competing deadlines and with attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Ability to assess and provide recommendations for additional assistance
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend assignments as necessary
  • Ability to relate to a diverse community
  • Ability to travel as scheduled and/or as necessary

Hours of Employment

This is a full-time position serving a national university. A work schedule will be established in consultation with the supervisor. The typical work week is Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week, with occasional evening and/or weekend hours.
