About the Chancellor
William R. Groves, JD, is the 22nd Chancellor of Antioch University.
He has served as Chancellor since 2016 and has focused on three priorities:
- to reclaim and advance its reputation as an innovator in higher education
- to grow programmatically and geographically in ways that will allow Antioch to reach its full potential to advance social, economic, and environmental justice
- to advance and promote the University’s 172-year-long history and heritage around social justice and democracy building
Chancellor Groves also serves as Executive Vice President for the Coalition for the Common Good, the first national higher education system of affiliated universities organized around a shared mission of educating students not only to advance their careers but to promote our pluralistic democracy, social, and racial, economic, and environmental justice, and the common good.

Chancellor Communications
“The Coalition for the Common Good is the first system to be created in which the affiliate institutions are bound by a common mission of educating for social justice and a commitment to building and preserving democracy. This mission-driven system could not come at a more important inflection point in our nation’s history. Our pluralistic American democracy requires that educational institutions prepare students to be effective and engaged citizens.”
