MEd for Experienced Educators, Integrated STEAM Education

Implement STEAM methodology in the classroom.

Through the exploration and implementation of innovative pedagogical practices, the Integrated STEAM Education Concentration in the MEd for Experienced Educators will help you create classrooms in which science, technology, engineering, arts, and math are integrated into an engaging, coherent whole. While in the program, you’ll build on your pedagogical beliefs and explore how to better align what you believe with what you do, creating new approaches and sharing them with your peers. Focus on the ways in which STEAM is more than just five letters or a set of discrete disciplines and discover a new perspective on teaching and learning!

This degree is offered by Antioch University’s New England Campus.

Program Overview

Students working on a STEAM project

The STEAM Concentration trains educators in the core practices of inquiry-driven, experiential pedagogy, and authentic assessment as tools for instruction and curriculum design. Relevant and engaging coursework takes into account the lives of working educators. The experiential, practical approach helps participants remain committed to their current job and personal responsibilities. The program combines online pedagogy with an interactive teaching methodology that models the STEAM methodology we hope to see you implement in your own classroom practice. It includes small class sizes, individual attention from faculty, and real-time connection via telephone, online conferencing, and webinars.

Optional Summer Residency

If you choose to come to a summer residency instead of doing your program fully online, you can expect one or two weeks of a retreat-like experience in beautiful Keene, NH. Small classes offer lots of hands-on activities, community-based learning opportunities, and a socially engaging week of meeting with your online classmates and AUNE  faculty. In most concentrations, you can choose whether to attend face-to-face classes for either one or two weeks in the summer, and you don’t have to decide in advance. You can consult with your adviser and see what fits your schedule and learning style best.

Dates for Residencies

Summer Residency Courses are held the first two full weeks of July following the week of the Fourth of July holiday- typically the first and second or second and third weeks of the month. Depending on your program, you can attend for the first or second week or come for both weeks.
