BA in Liberal Studies, Addiction Studies

This degree will help you become a powerful advocate for addiction recovery and prevention. Our curriculum explores the underlying psychological and societal influences of substance abuse and the varied treatment modalities leading to recovery. Addiction Studies is offered as a major or minor area of concentration of the BA in Liberal Studies degree at AU Los Angeles.
Program Overview
Antioch University LA is where creativity and experiential learning create generative change in the field of recovery. Become an advocate for healing and transformation in the rapidly growing field of addiction treatment by learning to use prevention, intervention and treatment strategies that emphasize client strengths. Students in the Addiction Studies Concentration benefit from Antioch’s small, interactive classrooms, flexible scheduling, and individualized advising. Personal and professional experience can be turned into academic credit through our unique prior learning program, and students gain real-life addiction counseling experience through placement at our diverse internship training sites. Additionally, in the final quarter of their undergraduate degree, students may apply to Fast Track into Antioch’s accredited Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology program, potentially saving time and tuition costs.
Concentration Requirements
In addition to the general degree requirements outlined on the BA in Liberal Studies page, students must successfully complete a minimum of 20 units (Minor) or 40 units (Major) for the Addiction Studies Concentration. These units can be transferred or earned at Antioch. A minimum of 30 semester or 45 quarter credits must be completed with Antioch University. If the student has not fulfilled these unit requirements, the Area of Concentration will be designated as Liberal Studies.

Undergraduate New Student Orientation
