Doctor Filmore’s educational background includes a BA in Psychology from the University of Illinois- Chicago (2006), an MA in Clinical Professional Psychology (2010), and a Doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from Northern Illinois University (2014). He has specialized training in Queer & Trans Issues, Multicultural/Diversity, Identity, and Inclusion, as well as Couples Counseling, and is currently training with the Gottman Institute in the Level 1 Couples Therapist Training.

He is a nationally, and internationally, known clinical professional and expert. He has traveled around the country, and the world, sharing his personal experiences with Human Sex Trafficking, addiction recovery, and a host of other topics. He has two published, co-edited, books: Affirmative Counseling with LGBTQIA+ People and Introduction to 21st Century Counseling: A social justice perspective, along with countless articles.

Dr. Filmore is married, with two Labrador Retrievers, and he and his husband have been together for 18 years. Not only is he a full-time Clinical Therapist, licensed in 5 States, he is also Owner/CEO of The Filmore Institute: A Social-Emotional Wellness Clinic. Where he employs 3 Therapists and a Group Leader in his fully online, growing, clinical private practice.

As a survivor of childhood trauma, he is intimately aware of the struggles and pitfalls that await someone who is seeking to achieve healing after having experienced severe trauma. Overcoming toxic thoughts and fears can be a client’s biggest obstacle to the life they want. Dr. Filmore takes great pride in teaching the next generation of clinical professionals so that they can carry the world into the 22nd Century.

And did we forget to mention that Dr. Filmore is also a professional Drag Queen named, Moana Lotte!?
