Dr. Peihsuan (Patty) Liu earned her PhD and Master’s degree from Penn State University and has been teaching at the AUS Clinical Mental Health Counseling program since 2019. Dr. Liu is licensed in both WA (LMHC) and PA (LPC), with the specialty of trauma counseling, trauma-informed care, Internal Family Systems Therapy, polyvagal theory, somatic work, and EMDR. Dr. Liu is passionate about working with clients who are trauma survivors as well as training future counselors to become trauma-informed and social justice-oriented counselors. Dr. Liu created the Trauma Counseling Certificate program at AUS in 2021 and has been serving as the coordinator of the trauma certificate program, where she really enjoys working with students in their journey of becoming trauma therapists.

Dr. Liu was born and raised in Taiwan, and she has been building the connection with the counseling community in Taiwan for years, where she has published four books in Taiwan to raise mental health awareness and provide psychoeducation about trauma and healing. She has also been providing workshops and trainings about trauma counseling, IFS, and polyvagal theory to therapists in Taiwan. Dr. Liu enjoys being a counselor educator, a mental health counselor, a clinical supervisor, and a consultant in her professional life.
