Method to assess remote work: Publications of weekly content and of 1 issue per semester of Lunch Ticket literary journal. Regular check-ins with the MFA team.
Job Description
- The Editor-in-Chief (EIC) is the journal’s editorial and production leader, representing the AULA, MFA, and Lunch Ticket missions. Under advisement from the MFA core faculty and staff, the EIC has final responsibility for all operations and published LT content, including ultimate editorial rights.
- Federal Work Study workload for the Editor-in-Chief position: 20 hours a week
- Human Resources (5 hours)
- Oversee all departments and all staff
- Create staff applications; dispense and review applications; determine masthead of editorial and production staff including management appointments
- Conduct weekly meetings with journal staff and staff advisor
- Arbitrate disputes regarding content and between personnel
- Articulate and enforce LT policies and procedures
- Advise team leaders and ME team
- Lead residency orientation, debriefing, trainings, and recruiting presentations
- Lead offsite information sessions as needed; represent LT at industry functions
- Editorial & Operations (12 hours)
- Create editorial production timeline / calendar
- Communicate and prioritize upcoming deadlines and action items; monitor progress of all processes
- Evaluate and approve all pieces considered for acceptance
- Oversee maintaining acceptance workbook
- Oversee maintaining records of all statistics
- Build and maintain Google Drive of team folders
- Oversee assigning interviews; determine each issue’s “Lunch Special”
- Approve the weekly content
- Edit and approve each piece in WordPress prior to publication
- Oversee administration of the platforms: Submittable, WordPress, Mailchimp, Google Drive, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Buffer
- Troubleshoot issues with any of the platforms
- Understand and be prepared to handle any task on the journal
- Marketing & Communication (3 hours)
- Oversee all marketing and promotional campaigns; create all promotional materials
- Support and expand the efforts of the outreach team
- Contribute to / improve existing policy and procedure documentation; contribute actionable feedback to all “living documents” including training manuals and editorial policies
Qualifications
- MFA Student;
- strong writing, editorial and leadership skills;
- ability to learn multiple platforms;
- excellent communication skills.
- Ideally has prior experience in an editorial role on other literary journals.
- Have served at least 2 semesters on Lunch Ticket in other positions.
